Job description
The All England Lawn Tennis Club leads the day-to-day operations of The Championships, Wimbledon. To remain at the Pinnacle of Sport as a Force for good, we have ambitious energy efficiency and carbon reduction goals. These include the removal of all fossil fuel sources leading to net zero carbon operations. This role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to lead the operational delivery of this high profile strategic focus across the existing estate and new developments.
The position focuses on optimising energy procurement, managing risk, improving building systems performance, ensuring robust carbon reporting, and delivering measurable energy and carbon improvements and efficiencies across the estate. The role holder will liaise closely with colleagues with responsibility for building management systems, project delivery, financial management and corporate sustainability as well as a range of colleagues and stakeholder within and outside of the organisation. What you will be doing
Energy Procurement & Risk Management
- Manage energy ecosystem, including broker, suppliers, MOP, validation and sub metering contracts.
- Working closely with the Head of Energy and Environment and Financial Management colleagues, develop and deploy energy procurement and risk management strategies across electricity, gas, and water, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals and budget requirements.
- Coordinate and supervise site visits for all utility metering contractors ensuring compliant access is provided and that appropriate RAMS are in place.
- Maintain compliance with all energy and carbon related legislation, standards and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with finance and procurement teams to develop, monitor, report and track delivery against energy budgets and forecasts.
BMS Optimisation
- Work closely with internal and external teams to optimise Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS), advise on strategy and integrate common systems.
- Contribute to capital projects to ensure that the appropriate BEMS is correctly specified and delivered.
- Conduct regular system audits, reports and performance reviews to ensure alignment with our specific objectives and strategy.
- Work with our supply chain and stakeholders to ensure that the BEMS facilitates carbon reduction goals.
Energy Efficiency & Innovation
- Lead a programme to identify and deliver sustainability linked innovations through colleague engagement, system audits, feasibility studies, and capital projects.
- Prepare business cases for energy and environmental delivery.
- Promote behavioural change and staff engagement in energy conservation.
- Stay informed of emerging technologies, standards and regulatory changes to inform strategic strategy decisions.
Carbon Accounting
- Ensure that carbon reporting across the organisation represents best practice.
- Lead carbon data collection, analysis, and reporting across Scope 1, 2, and Scope 3 emissions in addition to spheres of influence.
- Develop and maintain dashboards for overall operational performance and project reporting.
- Manage the delivery of the organisation’s Net Zero Delivery Plan.
- From time to time, opportunities and requirements to undertake other roles within the business utilising your transferable skills will also arise.
About you
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in energy management.
- Awareness of energy markets, procurement, standards and risk management.
- An understanding of metering, BMS, HVAC, lighting systems, and control theory.
- Experience with carbon accounting and reporting tools/platforms.
- Excellent data analysis and reporting skills; proficiency in Excel and energy management software.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualifications and experience.
- Membership of a professional body (e.g. Energy Institute, CIBSE).
Desirable
- Chartered Energy Manager or Building Services Engineer status or working towards it.
- Experience in within complex or multi-site environments, with sports, leisure, or higher education preferred.
- Familiarity with frameworks such as UN SDGs, ISO50001, IWA42, RIBA 2030 Challenge or Sport for Climate Action.
- Passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
- Ability to produce dashboards using Databricks, Power BI, SQL, or similar.
- Experience of data management through the application and development of artificial intelligence solutions.

- The Estate Department provides the development and operational function for the AELTC’s entire Estate. These include some iconic elements such as the retractable roofs on Centre Court and No.1 Court, solar thermal heating array on the Aorangi Building and less visible elements such as the extensive private electrical network. The Energy & Environment team support delivery of strategic ambitions, including being a Force for Good and ensuring that we remain at the Pinnacle of Sport. We are responsible for carbon management; the mechanical, electrical and plumbing around the estate; landscape and ecology; and, corporate sustainability and reporting.
