Job description

To oversee and ensure the smooth day to day running of external transport services for the duration of The Championships and the build up to the Tournament.

Recruitment to this position is in relation to the 2026 Championships (Monday 29 June – Sunday 12 July 2026), however this role would require several days throughout the year to meet with organisations responsible for service delivery in the areas as above. It is expected that the overall days throughout the calendar year would be a minimum of 28 days.

It would be helpful if the preferred candidate would be available on 1-2 days during the 2025 Championships (Monday 30 June – Sunday 13 July) in order to experience Championships conditions.

Background

Founded in 1868, The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) is a private members’ club which organises and stages The Championships, Wimbledon.

The AELTC has delivered substantial top line growth in recent years and expects that growth to continue in conjunction with an ambitious investment programme in the years ahead, including the proposed delivery of the Wimbledon Park Project.

The Operations Department’s role is to prepare, plan and deliver a successful Championships in collaboration and partnership with all AELTC departments, temporary Championships staff, volunteers, contractors and agencies.

The Road and Transport Liaison will oversee and ensure the smooth day to day running of external transport services for the duration of The Championships and the build up to the Tournament.

This supports the AELTC’s goal of delivering the world’s premier tennis tournament and to support one of the world’s most prestigious tennis clubs.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • Liaison with the host Boroughs regarding their respective Traffic Management Orders / Planning for The Championships
  • MPS / ECR / AELTC Transport operations liaison – primary AELTC traffic liaison
  • Manage neighbour relations within the feedback/planning process in respect of traffic impact and respond dynamically to traffic issues that arise during build/de-rig and Championships’ phases
  • Direct supervision of the Zone Ex team (including Taxi Marshals) and day-to-day oversight of the traffic management operation provided by a third-party traffic management company (currently CSP)
  • Liaison with Hackney Carriage associations and oversee the temporary taxi ranks in place during The Championships
  • Liaison with the Go-Ahead London buses and related operations
  • Liaison with Wimbledon National Rail mainline station and related operations
  • Liaison with TFL Southfields and related operations
  • Oversee security both within car parks and perimeters

Person Specification

Essential

  • Recent experience of working in a traffic management environment, particularly at major events
  • Excellent communication with partners and providers, including the Metropolitan Police Service
  • Prior experience of working with commercial and local government partnerships
  • Working knowledge of current and relevant traffic law and the criminal justice system
  • Relevant experience in investigations and problem solving
  • Experience of customer service environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills to both improve visitor experience and overall safety/security
  • Outstanding communication skills

  • Must be proactive and able to self-start, without requiring close supervision
  • Independent thinker with strong observation skills and ability to multitask
  • Good organisation, time-keeping and decision-making skills
  • The ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations
  • Excellent knowledge of local transport network and key routes to/from the AELTC
  • Flexibility in working hours

Successful candidates must be prepared to undertake relevant vetting and DBS checks prior to joining the business.
