Job description

To play a significant role in ensuring the Club and Championships is truly connected to the professional tennis community. Your primary focus will be to help ensure the AELTC is credible and accessible within the professional tennis community, which will help to strengthen its reputation and influence within the wider tennis ecosystem. You will also have a strategic focus on ensuring the grass court season and grass court tennis remains strong, relevant and realises future growth opportunities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will have day to day responsibility for the grass court season strategy and management of AELTC tournament assets (including day to day management of third parties).
  • Supported by the legal team, you’ll lead contract negotiations on new tournament delivery agreements and grass court maintenance contracts.
  • You will be the lead representative of AELTC within the existing WTA and ATP Tour structure. This will involve regular engagement and travel.
  • Working closely with all members of the Professional Tennis, you’ll ensure a holistic approach to all workstreams, including Player Relations, The Grass Court Season and Tournament Relations.
  • Work closely with the leadership team of the other Grand Slams to ensure that we create stronger relationships with our international counterparts, focussing specifically on pre-agreed areas of collaboration. 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key Committee members, allowing you to perform your role in an efficient and collaborative way.
  • Lead and continue the development for the strategy for investment in grass court tennis at all levels in addition to the professional tours, e.g. juniors, participation, grass court research and development and grass court visibility and activation.
  • Along with colleagues in the Professional Tennis team, take on responsibility for integrating Professional Tennis into the wider business.
  • Assume accountability for the management of multi-year budgets and contribute to the longer-term planning for the Professional Tennis function.
  • Act as a business lead on complex, multi-discipline projects and issues.  

About you

  • You will have a deep understanding of sports administration and the business of the AELTC including our values.
  • A thorough knowledge of tennis and the various tours would be advantageous.
  • You will have experience of delivering major sporting events, allowing you to contribute to the smooth running of The Championships in a meaningful way.
  • Proven track record in managing and leading complex business projects, with the ability to manage complex stakeholder groups and priorities.
  • Experience in a similar sport leadership role.  You thrive in a team environment, able to lead, coach and support other members of the team and organisation.
  • You perform well in a high-pressure environment, understanding this is part of the job at certain times of the year.
  • An accomplished problem solver with a deep understanding of when and how to communicate good and bad news. Able to influence and negotiate at various levels of seniority. 
  • You have strategic capability, you are data savvy and have demonstrable experience of making data driven decisions.  
  • You have an appetite for learning and a curious mindset.
  • An outstanding communicator, with the ability to flex your style. You’ll be accomplished at creating business cases and persuasive papers for business approval.
  • You have experience of effectively managing multi-year budgets.
