Job description

We're looking for a Mechanic to join our Groundstaff team at Wimbledon. 

What you will be doing

  • Repairing and maintaining AELTC’s grounds machinery including grass-cutting machinery, hydraulic, electrical, 2-stroke machinery and other mechanised equipment across all sites/locations
  • Fabricating machinery or equipment
  • Keeping records of machinery information and work carried out in conjunction with the Senior Mechanic
  • Organising stock control and budgeting  
  • Reporting any major defects in machinery and address accordingly
  • Maintain health, safety and security in the workplace and comply with company procedures and guidelines
  • Taking personal responsibility to be in clean and presentable AELTC uniform during working hours
  • On a day-to-day basis offering flexibility to provide support and work across the Groundstaff and Horticultural Services Department as required across all sites/locations.

What part your role will play in The Championships

  • The Groundstaff Department’s role is to maintain grass, clay, hard and covered courts and the croquet lawns for year-round use by Members and guests and to fully prepare the courts for The Championships using the latest technology combined with vast experience and skills.
  • Your role supports the Groundstaff Department and the AELTC’s goal of delivering the world’s premier tennis tournament and to support one of the world’s most prestigious tennis clubs.

About you

  • Proven knowledge and practical experience gained in a professional environment to include  qualification in Land Based Service Engineering or equivalent
  • Up to date knowledge and proven experience of grass-cutting machinery, hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Proven knowledge and strong competence with various IT systems
  • Strong skills and proven knowledge and ability in fabrication and welding
  • Current full driving licence - to include licence to tow machinery between venues as required
  • Recognise all events and matches are important to the image and the operation of the AELTC
  • Flexibility to include weekends, evenings and a different pattern of hours to cover events across all sites/locations 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and numeracy to meet job requirements
  • Organised, efficient, professional, reliable, strong attention to detail and able to meet deadlines with a positive and flexible approach
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to build good working relationships at all levels across all sites/locations
  • Strong attention to detail

  • The Groundstaff Department also covers the Community Tennis Centre at Raynes Park and the Wimbledon Qualifying and Community Sports Ground at Roehampton, delivering year-round maintenance of grass courts, hard courts, football pitches, rugby pitches and cricket facilities including the daily care of ornamental, other grass areas and car parks.
