With Grounds covering more than 42 acres, it takes a large team of skilled gardeners and groundstaff and more to keep The All England Lawn Tennis Club looking its best.
Horticulture
Our horticulture team work hard to maintain the much-loved heritage of Wimbledon through our vision of ‘tennis in an English garden’. Using Wimbledon's classic colour palette, our horticulture team design, plant and maintain this spectacular display for The Championships each year. However, the All England Club is open for the rest of the year too, and the team also work to ensure our guests have the opportunity to experience this joy whenever they are able to visit us.
That's just in our home location! We also have teams operating at our Community Sports Centre's in Raynes Park and Roehampton, who spread the Wimbledon colours a little further in to our local communities.
Groundstaff
Our Groundstaff team maintain 18 Championships grass courts, 22 grass practice courts, six clay courts and several acrylic and indoor courts at the All England Club. There are also croquet lawns too, and all of this is maintained year-round for use by our Club Members and their guests.
Perhaps most importantly, our grounds teams deliver a state of the art preparation programme for The Championships which sees our tennis courts being used for around 3, 500 hours. They do this by using the latest technology combined with vast experience and skills.
Meanwhile, our teams based at Roehampton and Raynes Park, deliver an exceptional year-round maintenance programme of grass courts, hard courts, football pitches, rugby pitches and cricket facilities. All of which we intend to keep to the same high standards that we have for Centre Court. They also manage the daily maintenance of ornamental areas, other grass areas and car parks. Plus, the state of the art preparation for our Qualifying Competition ensures that players competing there can experience a taste of Wimbledon's famous grass courts.
